Jasper

Jasper is usually considered as a chalcedony. Some scienists, however, put it in a group by itself within the quartz group. The name is derived from the Greek and it means "spotted stone" because then the name referred to its green transparent qualities. Sometimes it is called hornstone, but this usually only refers to the gray variety.
